Why Trying To Save the World Could Be Stopping You From Saving Any Of It
Focus.
Do you have it? In this season of heat and disruption, it can feel elusive.
Without focus, we can quickly spiral into old habits, thoughts, and beliefs that hold us back from making positive, sustainable shifts.
Which is why, over the next few weeks, I’ll be helping you focus.
I’ll be drawing on Step Four of the Climate Calm™ method, sharing exclusive sneak previews of new learning material as we explore.
To focus is to consciously shape your actions, to align with what you believe, and what you want to put out into the world.
As a climate professional, like many, I hold a systems perspective and see numerous opportunities that exist to make positive shifts. This becomes tricky, however, when the mindset of trying to ‘fix’ everything at once takes over.
The sympathetic nervous system, the fight or flight response, kicks in. When we lose focus, our impact diminishes, and we spiral into anxiety and overwhelm.
‘Our house is on fire’ said Greta Thunberg.
She’s right.
But if politicians, scientists, professionals, leaders, and everyone who cares about the climate run around trying to put out multiple fires, it will be chaos. In many ways, this image is a disturbingly accurate depiction of what is happening right now.
So this is your invitation to focus.
Not only for the world, but for your well-being. This week, when things inevitably start to get busy, think of the power and relief that comes from focus.
One step at a time.
Focus.
On self. What you can control right now.
Focus.
When you are feeling the heat.
Focus.
And breathe.
