Struggling to Make a Decision? 3 Ways to Know When it’s a ‘YES’
Last week, while setting the theme for the yoga class I teach, I found myself torn between two directions.
The first was a nurturing practice, encouraging us to embrace the autumn, grab a cosy blanket, and lean into self-care as a guiding principle for the week. Another part of me, however, was calling for expansiveness and openness, to embrace the freshness of the season and grasp new opportunity.
Could I do both? I wondered.
It was then that I realised I can, using the principles I teach in Step One of Climate Calm™. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. If we trust our intuition, we can effortlessly glide between one state and the other.
Prioritising our wellbeing is about knowing when it is a 'yes' and when it is a 'no' or 'not right now'. This protects our precious energy and allows us to amplify our positive impact when we strategically choose to move.
The secret is to be grounded in the nervous system.
When we become overburdened and overwhelmed, we lose the insight about when to act and when to stay still. The fight-or-flight response does not allow room for that inner knowing to be our guide.
To break the cycle, we stop.
Struggling with a decision? Stop and sleep on it.
Feeling overwhelmed? Stop. Take a five-minute walk outside.
Head spinning? Stop. Breathe. Use breathwork you know, or explore the practices I teach on Instagram.
We live in an age of overwhelm, but we see the world through the state of our nervous system. This is where we start, for sustainable and lasting change.
