Shining New Light- When Climate Solutions Dazzle

Diamonds are sold as symbols of love, status, and forever. But behind their sparkle is a legacy of exploitation, violence, and deep environmental harm. In some ways, this one tiny rock holds more emotional baggage than the climate crisis itself.

Which is why I’m inspired by diamonds in the sky. Not the song (though I do love Rihanna), but real diamonds made from carbon pulled straight from the atmosphere.

UK-made Skydiamonds are carbon negative. They flip the script on what climate solutions can look like. Far from a mindset of sacrifice and scarcity, they lean into frivolous extravagance.

They show us that caring for the planet doesn’t mean living in a cave. Diamonds in the sky won’t solve the climate crisis on their own. But what they represent is powerful: a shift in mindset. They take two seemingly separate problems — the ethical mess of traditional diamonds and the overload of atmospheric carbon — and combine them into one elegant, joyful solution.

They remind us to shine bright in our own efforts to decarbonise. I don’t own one, and I won’t be buying one anytime soon (£££!), but that’s not the point. Their existence proves that feel-good solutions can come from surprising places. When we stop thinking in boxes, rather than dim our light, we can find solutions that sparkle.
